One of, if not the most famous and most quoted planning professors in Australia, emeritus professor Michael Buxton joins us for this latest episode of PGAP. Land use planning is a particular interest of ours, so it is a great pleasure to have Michael as a guest. Despite officially being retired, Michael continues to play a huge role in town planning issues, including being interviewed for podcasts such as this.
Michael has taught thousands of planning students over the years at RMIT university and Monash University, as well as working in the public service for 12 years. He is regarded as being outspoken, mostly because he puts good planning ahead of the demands of the development lobby.
This episode among other issues gave us the opportunity to discuss systemic change towards a post growth society and why this will lead to much better planning and development outcomes.

The way in which we plan our cities and towns has a huge impact on the way we live. This in turn impacts our carbon emissions and ecological footprints. Fortunately, there are a few urban planners who recognise that transitioning to a degrowth, steady-state system is imperative for the future of urban planning. Our special guest, Emeritus Professor Michael Buxton (OAM) is one such expert.
